My favourite music, part two

As I said, I don't have many favourite songs. That's because, other than David Devant & His Spirit Wife, there's not many songs about being ginger. If there were, then I'm sure that I'd pay more attention to music. But as it is, I have no choice but to alter songs that already exist. I don't mean remixes or anything like that. I just change the words to make them appropriate. If I were a Smiths fan, then I'm sure that I'd make some reference about songs saying nothing about my life, but I wouldn't know about that sort of thing.

No, instead I have to change the lyrics to songs to give them added meaning. It's quite easy, all you have to do is choose a significant word from the song, & replace it with a different word. I use the word ginger. If I do this, my second favourite song go something like this...

"She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College
That's where I
Caught her eye
She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said in that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola
She said fine
and in thirty seconds time she said,

I want to live like ginger people
I want to do whatever ginger people do
I want to sleep with ginger people
I want to sleep with ginger people
like you

Well what else could I do
I said I'll see what I can do
I took her to a supermarket
I don't know why but I had to start it somewhere
so it started there
I said pretend you've got no money
she just laughed and said
Oh you're so funny
I said yeah?
Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here

Are you sure you want to live like ginger people
you want to see whatever ginger people see
you want to sleep with ginger people
you want to sleep with ginger people
like me
But she didn't understand
she just smiled and held my hand

Rent a flat above a shop
cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool
pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right
cos when you're laid in bed at night
watching roaches climb the wall
if you call your Dad he could stop it all

You'll never live like ginger people
you'll never do what ginger people do
you'll never fail like ginger people
you'll never watch your life slide out of view
and dance and drink and screw
because there's nothing else to do

Sing along with the ginger people
sing along and it might just get you through
laugh along with the ginger people
laugh along even though they're laughing at you
and the stupid things that you do
Because you think that poor is cool

I want to live with ginger people"

My favourite music, part one

I don't have many favourite songs. That's because I can't remember them (I am a bit slow, after all), but this is one of them. In fact, it's the only one that I don't have to change the lyrics to in order to like it (more on that later).

It's by David Devant & His Spirit Wife. They don't exist any more. That makes me sad.

"Do you feel born out of time?
Does all the world seem behind you?
You must be ginger
And when you walk down the street
Do people tread on your heels?
And wag a finger?

Have you got plans in your head?
You wish they'd all go drop dead
Because they don't understand
They think you're from another land

Ginger
It's not the same for you
In another life maybe
We'd all be ginger & free

Do people tell you you're wrong
Won't let you feel you belong
In their club
You're an outsider
And when they shout freckle face
It makes you feel out of place
You're in the dentist's chair
Open wider

Ginger
It's not the same for you
In another life maybe
We'd all be ginger & free

We're gonna be
Ginger & free"

Me, part one

Hello. I'm ginger. And a bit slow.
